Measuring Guide
1. Outside window frame to outside window frame. 2. Top of window frame to bottom of window frame. 3. Top of pole to top of frame - a minimum of 4". 4. Bottom of rings to floor. 5. Top of pole to top of floor. 6. Width of pole - NOT including finials. Factors to consider in Measuring:
TIE TOP AND TAB TOP PANELS: For tab tops, use a curtain rod or pole without rings.. The panels of tab tops hang below the rod with the top of the panel about 2" from the bottom of the rod. Measure from the bottom of the rod or pole. For tie top panels, rods with rings would be the preferable choice. The panels are tied to the rings so that the top of the panel is about 1" below the rings. Measure from the bottom of the rings on your rod. ROD POCKET PANELS: measurements are taken from the top of the pole to the floor. Remember that there is some "take up" when the material is gathered on the rod/pole. Please add 1" to your finished length measurement when smaller poles are used. If the diameter of the pole is 2" or greater, then add 2" to your finished length. The "ruffle" at the top of your panel is your choice. Just indicate in your order if you want the ruffle at the top of the drape, add 2 inches to the finished length for the ruffle. Measuring Tips
1. For accuracy, use a metal tape. Cloth will stretch, and using a short ruler tends not to work 2. Measure all of the windows. Even though they appear identical, the windows may be a different size. 3. If the drapes you are ordering will be hung over existing sheers, or drapes, measure at least 1 " longer so that the new drapes can project over the inner drape. 4. If possible, your finished window treatment should be installed at least 4" above the top of the window. This makes the drape more attractive from the exterior of your home. 5. The following are suggestions for finished drapery lengths: For floor length drapes measure to ½" above hard flooring or just above the pile of carpeting. 6. The following rules for measuring can be applied to existing installed rods or to assist you in installing your new rods. Drapes that are hung from conventional traverse rod or curtain rods will project ½" above the top of the rod. Remember this in your finished length measurement. When using a ceiling mounted traverse rod, the measurement for length should start ¼" below the top of the rod. For decorative traverse rods, such as wood rods, wrought- iron or other types; start your measurement from the bottom of the rings. Please be sure that your pole is up high enough so that the bottom of the ring is higher than the top of the window molding. When using ringless decorator traverse rods for pleated drapes, the measurement should begin at the lower edge of the rod. Puddling Rules Puddling - the extra amount of fabric that flow on the floor. Considered to add opulence and style to your drapes. Only recommended for nonfunctioning panels. Also, not recommended in high traffic areas. 1" puddle - Drapes just rest on the floor. 2-4" puddle - Drapes spill onto the floor. 6-8" puddle - Drapes flow on the floor in a true puddle. FLATTOP AND PLEATED PANELS: For any of these styles, please refer to the MEASURING TIPS for correct measuring guides. NON-FUNCTIONING PANELS – Often referred to as side panels – The panels do not open or close. Normally a single width panel is hung on each side of the window. If you are decorating a multiple window area you might want to order 1 ½ width for each side. If Windows measure over 120", then 2 panels on each side would be more appropriate. FUNCTIONING PANELS: These are drapes that will open and close. We will need measurement (1) from the picture above. The finished length measurement for your drapes will depend on the type of rod you choice. Again, read the MEASURING TIPS for guidance. Please call or e-mail me at any time if you require assistance in determining correct measurements.
